LeidenGlobal is a collaborative effort of academic and cultural institutions, in scholarship and outreach. Each of these institutes in their collections, research and educational programs has an expertise in specific areas of the world. Through LeidenGlobal, academic and cultural institutions connect with local communities, media, government, business, and NGOs to raise the impact of scholarship across the board, from cultural events and public debate to government policy and education
Leiden: City of Knowledge
Leiden is a city known for the academic and cultural knowledge it houses. Many museums and academic institutions are to be found in this city. LeidenGlobal is a meeting place for some of these leading academic and cultural institutions. Our partners consist of two Dutch museums and six international research and teaching institutes, among them Leiden University. Together with these partners LeidenGlobal aims to present and make visible the knowledge that is available in Leiden to a wider audience.
What does LeidenGlobal offer?
In order to reach a broad public and make knowledge more visible LeidenGlobal organises, together with its partners, several events and activities. An example is the photo exhibition ‘Heritage on the Move’, which consists of several photographs submitted by experts from Leiden focussing on their research. They show that people move around the world, sometimes voluntarily and sometimes they have no choice. They take their heritage and culture to other places, where it changes, just like they do. This exhibition itself is displayed all around Leiden.
Events like these attract a variety of people with different backgrounds, which is a good opportunity to get in touch with people in the city, broaden their network, get access to impressive locations, and get to know Leiden as the City of Knowledge. LeidenGlobal also keeps you updated on the many (mostly free) activities in and around Leiden, such as film screenings, art exhibitions, StepTalks, symposia and workshops, through our website and social media. Many of these activities are offered in English.
