Challenging young bright minds to shape the future. That is what the EU TalentOn stands for.

The Talenton is an event meant for young academics from all over Europe, between the ages of 21 and 35. The event is a competition where people will compete to find the best solutions to problems in the world of today and tomorrow. The participants will be divided into teams. These teams will take on challenges linked to the 5 EU Missions in light of Horizon Europe. The themes these teams will be working on during this brand-new event are climate adaptation, cancer, healthy soils and clean waters, and smart and climate-neutral cities.

During the week of 14-18 September 2022, each team will be matched to a buddy, working as the team manager. This person will do everything they are capable of to help the team and maximise efficiency. As a buddy, you get to experience the EU TalentOn and its thrilling program at PLNT in Leiden and gain experience within the organisation of an international academic event.

Among the buddies’ tasks are:

  • To welcome the participants to Leiden, get them set up in their hotel and show them around where needed.
  • To keep track of time and process, make sure the teams are where they need to be on time.
  • Practical facilitation: acquiring materials, taking notes, signing up for program options, etc.
  • Time & program management: translating the program possibilities to the team and helping out where you can.
  • To be the participants’ source of information, connect your team to mission partners in search for more information.
  • Thinking along: what available tools and what parts of the program can help the team further?

BUDDY CHARACTERISTICS:

  •  You are between the ages of 21 and 35 years old;
  •  You speak English well;
  • Friendly and sociable, keen to help a team;
  • You are capable of planning and organising;
  • You have an academic background;
  • Preferably you have some connection to 1 or more of the Mission Arenas: www.talenton.eu/missions.
  •  It is a plus if you live in or know the city of Leiden!

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

  • As a buddy you need to be physically present at the EU TalentOn from September 14 at 12:00 until September 18 at 12:00. Some online coordination will take place from August onwards.
