In need of a hospital? Find out more about hospitals in the region

The Dutch medical system requires you to first make an appointment with your General Practitioner (huisarts) who will refer you to a medical specialist at the hospital if necessary.

Hospitals in the Netherlands are either regional servicing hospitals or university hospitals, which have an additional education and research function.

In addition to hospitals, the Leiden region also has many private clinics for non-essential/alternative treatments. Please check your health insurance provider if clinic visits are covered.
