Netherlands opens nearly all locations until 22:00

| Leiden International Centre

Starting Wednesday 26 January, The Netherlands is opening most locations in the country under certain conditions. This includes restaurants, bars, cinemas, theatres, music venues, museums, zoos and amusement parks.

The country has already opened shops, educational institutions, and contact-based services. Indoor and outdoor sports participation has also been permitted, as well as artistic and cultural activities. In addition, sports competitions and matches will again be permitted. Spectators are allowed. Finally, self-quarantine advice for children under the age of 18 will be eased.

On Tuesday 8 march the government will decide if more restrictions can be eased.

Overview of general measures and guidance

  • All locations may be open from 05:00 to 22:00

  • Receive no more than 4 visitors over the age of 13 a day. Do not visit more than 1 household a day.

  • Face masks are mandatory on public transport, at stations, on platforms and at bus/tram stops. Face masks must be worn while walking in public indoor spaces (such as shops, museums, cinemas, theatres and hospitality venues).

  • Wear a face mask wherever it is not possible to maintain social distance, such as busy shopping streets.

  • In public spaces, assigned seats are mandatory.

  • If you are over the age of 13, you must show a coronavirus entry pass at required locations including restaurants, bars, theatres, music venues, museums, cinemas, zoos, amusement parks, saunas, and casinos. For those over the age of 18, a coronavirus entry pass is required at sports facilities.

  • Work from home, and if that is not possible, maintain a 1.5 metres distance from others.

  • At locations with assigned seating, a 1/3 capacity limit is in place in order to ensure everyone can stay 1.5 metres apart. Events with assigned seating, such as festivals, are not yet permitted.

Self-quaranting advice

The advice on self-quarantining is changing. If you have had contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus, you do not have to self-quarantine if you:

  • have no symptoms

AND

  • received your booster vaccination at least one week ago; OR

  • tested positive for coronavirus less than 8 weeks ago.

If you have symptoms of COVID-19:

  • stay at home and do a self-test immediately;

  • if the result of the self-test is positive, get tested by the municipal health service (GGD) as soon as possible;

  • if you get a positive test result, self-isolate at home.

In all cases, avoid contact with older people and people in at-risk groups for 10 days after your last contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.
