Young Rembrandt Studio

In the Young Rembrandt Studio, the 17th century house on Langebrug 89 in Leiden, Rembrandt learned painting, sketching and etching from his master Jacob van Swanenburgh during his early years (1606 – 1630).

Visit this unique stop along the Leiden Rembrandt trail for a peek into the life of the young Rembrandt. Through a splendid 7-minute video mapping, you are acquainted with the young Rembrandt and the key figures in his life. What was Rembrandt’s unique talent? What materials did he use, and how? Look back on the first 25 years of the life of the most famous Golden Century master painter in the world: Rembrandt.

Rembrandt foot trail

The Young Rembrandt Studio is a splendid addition to the Rembrandt foot trail “In the footsteps of the Young Rembrandt”. This trail connects all authentic Rembrandt locations in the city centre of Leiden, such as his birthplace and the Latin school Rembrandt attended. The theme signs along the trail offer an impression of Leiden during Rembrandt’s life. The trail can be obtained from the Young Rembrandt Studio and VVV Leiden tourist information centre for € 2.95.

Opening Hours

The Young Rembrandt Studio is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 am to 17:00 pm and offers free admission. The video projection takes 7 minutes and can be experienced by up to 10 persons at once. Prior reservation is not possible.
