The Dutch medical system requires you to first make an appointment with your General Practitioner (huisarts) who will refer to a medical specialist at the hospital if necessary.

Hospitals are either regional servicing hospitals or university hospitals (with an additional education and research function).

Regional hospital: Alrijne Hospital

Located: Leiden, Leiderdorp, Alphen aan de Rijn
Website: www.Alrijne.nl (only in Dutch)

University hospital: LUMC

Address: Albinusdreef 2, Leiden
Website: www.lumc.nl

The Leiden region also has many private clinics for non-essential/alternative treatments. Please check your health insurance provider if clinic visits are covered.
