Banking in the Netherlands
Once you are in the Netherlands, you will want to arrange your banking affairs. You can open a bank account, which will allow you to use services such as iDEAL. The Dutch government, local municipalities and most employers prefer you to have a Dutch bank for financial transactions.
Opening a bank account
In order to open a bank account in the Netherlands you will need to visit a bank and bring along the following documents:
- Valid ID, Proof of address (your rental agreement or a recent utility bill should be sufficient).
- Some banks also require proof of regular income such as a payslip or contract.
