Hazerswoude, exact location given after booking
On the 12th of August at 9:45 AM we meet for a cheese making workshop at a cheese farm between Leiden and Gouda, in the midst of the Dutch countryside. The cheese farmer welcomes us, gives a short introduction and provides us with all the material to make a fresh round cheese.
After we have added the ingredients to the milk and stirred it till it gets solid we leave the cheeses to set and follow the cheese farmer to his warehouse to coat some cheeses. Then it is time to visit the cows. We milk the cow, pet and feed the baby cows and then the farmer has a surprise for us: we get to ride with him on his tractor. A truly different way to experience his farmland, enjoy the views on the village and the windmill. After this ride we check on our cheeses. We pack them, listen to the last instructions and then we say goodbye to the farmer and his wife.
In the neighbourhood village Zoeterwoude we meet at another farm. At this dairy & cheese farm you can pet different farm animals, enjoy a lunch or pick your own on a trail through the woods. The kayaks and rowing boats are waiting for us. The farmer provides a map and a canoeing route which starts at the farm. You can either take the boat for half an hour to a nice stop for picnic or make a full round of about 1.5 hours.
Costs: €37.50 p.p. based on group of 6 people. This includes the cheese making workshop plus canoe rental.
Note: Transportation to the starting point & between locations is not included. This can be arranged.
