Leiden

Situated at what has traditionally been an important junction where waterways and roads cross stands a city that will enchant you: Leiden. The city is famous for its almshouses, university, museums and glorious history. The spirit of the Golden Age lives on here, a place where Rembrandt was born and inspired so many other influential painters. But even after this era Leiden continued to attract scientists, artists and industry. The canals, the historical buildings, the alleyways, the treasuries of knowledge, culture and science: Leiden is definitely worth seeing.

City of Discoveries

There are many things to discover, see and experience in this city. With so much history, so many museums and theatres, a vibrant inner city, monuments, shops, restaurants, cafés and a university, no one will be bored. It is a city of culture that offers a wide variety of parties and festivals. But it has also plenty to choose from in music, dance and theatre entertainment.

Another good way to discover the city is from the water! Apart from Amsterdam, the city of Leiden has the largest number of city canals in  the Netherlands, more than 28 kilometres of canals and waterways. To cross all these waterways, you obviously need bridges, and Leiden has no less than 88!

In fact, Leiden with more than 2800 monuments  is one large open-air museum and besides a good place to live and work, an interesting place to visit!
