Our international students need your help!
14 November 2011
Message from Leiden University:
This Fall semester (2011) we have about 20 international students enrolled in our Master program in Child and Adolescent Psychology. They come from Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, the UK and Spain. To meet the requirements of their course Psychological Assessment, our students need to find children or adolescents to work with. Most of our international students are new to this country and have no international social network of their own yet. That is why we really need your help! We are looking for families in the region of Leiden/the Hague.
Specifically we need to find:
Children/adolescents, age 8-16, fluent in English, who are developing normally.
For this course, our students need to administer a psychological assessment. This means they will meet with the parents/care-givers for an intake interview (up to 1 hour) during which they ask general questions about the child. Later, they will meet with the child/adolescent to administer an Intelligence test (WISC-III or WISC-IV)) and a questionnaire (Susan Harter’s Self-perception profile). This should take no more than a half-day.
Since this work is for educational purposes and it involves a practice situation for our students, the IQ score they find cannot be regarded as officially valid. That is why, unfortunately, our students will not be able to tell parents the final score or the interpretation of the scores. Please note that the WISC can only be administered once a year. If your child has recently been tested with the WISC or if you expect your child to need such testing in the near future, your child should not participate.
Please let us know if you are able and willing to help our international students. For more information, or to register your child(ren) for this Psychological Assessment, please contact: Drs. Corry Donner (coordinator international children) at Leiden University by email: cdonner@fsw.leidenuniv.nl.
