Liz Taylor film jewellery exhibition
15 June 2012
The ‘Egyptian’ jewellery with which Liz Taylor was adorned in the film Cleopatra (1963) will be on display at the exhibition entitled ‘Egypt in Films’ (Egypte in de Film) at the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden. The jewellery will be displayed along with authentic ancient Egyptian jewels and many other artefacts from the rich Leiden collection. Using over a hundred film fragments, the museum creates an historical overview of the manner in which pharaonic Egypt from 1898 until today is portrayed in films.
Egypt in films: A multidisciplinary project
Besides the exhibition, the museum will organise a symposium on image formation and media wisdom, a number of educational film nights and programmes, in cooperation with EYE Film Instituut Nederland, Leiden University and the Leids Film Festival. Egypte in de Film is opened from October 13 2012 – March 17 2013.
