Préludes (Debussy)
Between 1910 and 1913 Claude Debussy composed two books, each containing twelve piano preludes. These are works of sheer imagination, beauty and originality. The many references to the art of painting, mythology, humour, nature, literature and dance make Debussy’s Préludes a feast for the spirit and senses. Pianist René Eckhardt plays mainly modern music, though he describes his musical interest as ranging from Haydn to contemporary music. Debussy’s Préludes can be placed right in the middle: one century ago, a century after Haydn’s death.
