Dance group Amsterdam: Generations
Three generations of choreographers: De Châtel, Schumacher & Collins.
The dance artists of three generations have designed a choreography based on the theme: ‘Journey’. The most senior generation is represented by Krisztina de Châtel. Her choreography entitled Infinite was made to suit Piazzolla’s composition Eight Seasons. Unexpected, vehement interventions interrupt the rhythm and the sensual melancholy of the tango. With Remains To Be Seen, guest choreographer Michael Schumacher - one generation younger than De Châtel- proves that dance need not be as volatile as it is often thought to be. A dance can bring about emotions and images which last longer than the dance itself. The space between the dance movement and the images it leaves us with, is given a special status in this choreography. In Exclamations, the youngest choreographer of this programme - William Collins – uses citations from films such as Pretty Woman, Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms and Disney’s Aladdin, his theme being: desperation as a result of a disturbed communication.
